I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
The Office of Graduate Admissions and Student Services at the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) provides professional advising services to the current SEAS graduate student body as well as to prospective domestic and international graduate students.
Reporting to the Director of Graduate Enrollment and Student Services, the Senior Academic Advisor, Graduate Student Services, is responsible for guiding graduate student development in the classroom, through academic advising and co-curricular programs and opportunities. This position provides virtual and in-person one-on-one academic and professional guidance to graduate students on their course of study from time of admission through graduation. This position educates students on university policies and procedures, goal setting, academic planning, and course selection.
This position will be responsible for:
Maintains student records in DegreeMap and Banner, from matriculation to graduation and monitor and maintain up-to-date knowledge about programs and requirements. Informs students about alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major and/or transfer institution). Monitor student progress and provide counseling to support student timely program completion.
Works closely with the Director of Graduate Enrollment and Student Services to monitor graduate student enrollments and report any trends or registration issues they identify with the graduate student body based that might directly impact enrollment.
Develops and facilitates a wide variety of programming efforts for admitted and current graduate students. Develops and facilitates student orientation, pre-arrival meetings, and programming designed to boost school-wide yield.
Serves as a member of the admissions committee, which reviews MS applications and makes recommendations to the faculty.
Assists in the onboarding and training of new academic advisors.
Co-supervises the Graduate Ambassadors including hiring/onboarding, training, and meeting with them on a consistent basis.
Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in an education-related or counseling field preferred.
Experience in an academic setting and experience of disseminating academic information and reviewing/evaluating student records, preferred.
Data/Record Management Experience.
Strong Organization Skills.
Knowledge of engineering programs, program coordination, especially in the area of student engagement and retention.
Proficiency in MS Office, Banner, DegreeMap.
