JOB SUMMARY: The Apprentice position at the Dougherty County School System(DCSS) provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals with limited or no teaching experience to explore the field of education and to gain hands-on practice and the training necessary to become a highly qualified classroom teacher while enrolled in college and/or Certification program. Apprentices will have an opportunity to observe best practices in classroom instruction from experienced teachers and school leaders. Apprentices assume paraprofessional roles and responsibilities in the identified assignment with the opportunity to observe and learn from master teachers and have opportunities to co-teach with teacher-leaders as part of the apprenticeship program. DCSS apprentices will also have the opportunity to support teachers with individual or small group student instruction and tutoring. Through on-the-job training, apprentices will gain the experience and support necessary through the completion of microcredentials to develop and demonstrate their teaching skills in preparation of earning their teaching certification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Possess a high school diploma;
- Demonstrated experience working with children;
- Must enroll in a partnering university, college, or alternative certification program upon acceptance of the apprenticeship offer, or be currently enrolled as a clinical teaching student with a partner university;
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics;
- Ability to effectively build relationships with students, faculty and staff and work well with children;
- Ability to communicate effectively;
- Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance;
- Be present, organized, and enthusiastically committed to the success of all students;
- Support and align work with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the district;
- Follow and support board policies in areas of related responsibility;
- Ensure district resources are managed effectively to maximize resources for student learning;
- Actively participate in ongoing development to improve work quality and district contribution;
- Model integrity, work ethic, and professionalism;
- Ensure compliance with apprenticeship program requirements to include college enrollment and grade requirements, certification program requirements and training expectations requirements;
- Provide coverage for teachers within the campus and/or district as needed;
- Under the supervision of a mentor teacher/success coach, the apprentice will;
- Provide instruction to class or small groups of students;
- Observe and learn to develop effective lesson plans;
- Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school;
- Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring, small group intervention and student support;
- Observe master teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management;
- Apprentice teachers meet regularly with a coach/mentor related to development and feed-back;
- Responsibilities will be associated according to the apprentice on-ramp with Residency requirements established in on-ramp 4;
11. Complete assigned micro-credentials and related tasks;
12.Maintain minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA for apprenticeship program if pursuing bachelor's degree, and maintain a minimum of 12 college credit hours per semester to earn a minimum of 30 credit
hours per year;
13. Maintain progress and completion of Apprenticeship level as assigned;
14. Meet requirements of a partnering EPP or Alternative Certification Program Provider when completing the residency assignment;
15.Participate in staff development training programs to gain related instruction and training that will expand the current skill set aligned to assignment requirements and apprenticeship program
requirements;
16.Participate in faculty meetings, apprenticeship meetings and special events as assigned;
17. Perform other such duties needed or assigned by the supervisor.

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
