Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a small, collaborative team in Ithaca. This position offers flexibility, with a nearly full-remote setup, providing the convenience of working from home while staying connected to a close-knit team. As a Staff Accountant, you'll play a key role in managing and overseeing the accounting operations and reporting to a parent company based out of state. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, has a strong grasp of accounting principles, and excels in month-end close procedures and account reconciliations.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations: Lead and direct all aspects of accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
Transaction Management: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations to maintain financial integrity.
Payroll Administration: Manage biweekly payroll processing using Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for all employees.
Internal Controls: Implement robust controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk and enhance operational efficiency.
Financial Reporting & Compliance: Produce timely financial reports while ensuring compliance with GAAP or IFRS standards.
Performance Benchmarking: Establish key performance indicators and recommend benchmarks to measure and improve company performance.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop annual budgets, prepare forecasts, and report any significant budget variations to management.
Financial Analysis: Provide insights and analysis on capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations to support data-driven decision-making.
Audit Collaboration: Partner with external auditors and coordinate required information for the annual audit process.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations to maintain compliance across all financial activities.
Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned, including some office management and HR support tasks.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
Experience: At least 2 years in a Staff Accountant or similar role, demonstrating a solid foundation in accounting principles and best practices.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks, ERP systems, and handling accounts payable and receivable.
Reconciliations & Journal Entries: Strong experience with bank reconciliations, general ledger, and month-end close processes.
Analytical Abilities: Excellent analytical skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Communication & Organization: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of financial regulations and legislation.
