\nAbout the Unit:

UPMC Passavant Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility is a 24-bed facility in an acute care hospital. Our facility provides comprehensive rehabilitation services part of an intensive rehabilitation program. Patients who are admitted must be able to tolerate 3 hours of intense rehabilitations services per day. Rehabilitation services include treatment by a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist, rehabilitation nursing, PT/OT, SLP, orthotics, respiratory, case management, social services, and/or nutritional services. The Rehabilitation team treats a variety of conditions including, stroke, neurological disorders, and general debilitation.
\nThe vision of our Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Unit is for our rehabilitation facility to be recognized as the patient’s first choice for quality rehabilitation care in our community and our interdisciplinary team as leaders and experts in the profession of rehabilitation services.
\nOur mission is to Help patients with altered functional ability & lifestyles reach their goals and their highest level of function by the time of discharge by providing them with individualized efficient, effective care & rehabilitation services.
\nStaff on this unit work as a close-knit team to provide life changing medicine to their patients. Given the extended length of time that patients spend on this unit, staff have an opportunity to create meaningful relationships with their patients. The culture on our Rehab unit is one of teamwork, positivity, and encouragement. Staff collaborate closely with our physicians and physical, occupational, and speech therapy teams to provide interdisciplinary care to their patients and help them work towards achieving their goals. While the work can be physically demanding, the sense of self-fulfillment that the Rehab team gets out of helping their patients progress is what keeps many of our staff members on the unit for most of their nursing careers.
\nThe Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.
\nPurpose:
\nThe Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The Professional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures. \n\n
