Summary Statement The DPS Service Employee Wireless Systems Bureau (WSB) Apprenticeship is a limited-term position designed to allow Department of Public Safety (DPS) Service Employees to explore potential roles within the Wireless Systems Bureau, with the potential to advance to positions such as Telecommunications Technician or Technician Trainee. uncovered . Incumbent serves at the pleasure of the Director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety. During the apprenticeship, DPS Service Employees will rotate through various departments within the WSB in the areas described below.

Essential Functions (not intended to be all inclusive) SUBSCRIBER SERVICES SECTION: •Maintain subscriber units in the field, including updating IDs, encryption keys, and code plugs.
•Test and align radios and test, repair, and replace antennas.
•Perform radio installations and removals, involving bending, climbing in and out of vehicles, and lifting objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
WSB ENGINEERING: •Design and implement DPS network infrastructure across three main sections: Land Mobile Radio, Microwave Systems, and WAN/LAN Systems.
•Strong computer skills and attention to detail are essential.
GIS: •Create detailed drawings and maps of system layouts using various computer programs.
•Proficiency in computer-AIDED DESIGN (CAD) SOFTWARE IS REQUIRED.
INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE TEAM: •Install and maintain systems designed by WSB Engineering.
•Perform technical maintenance on tower sites, troubleshoot, and repair issues with Microwave Systems, WAN/LAN Systems, and Land Mobile Radio Systems.
•Strong technical and computer skills, as well as the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs., are necessary.
COMMUNICATIONS SITE MAINTENANCE TEAM: •Maintain tower sites, including climbing towers to install and maintain Microwave Dishes and antennas.
•Responsible for tower structures, site buildings, and generators.
•Requires mechanical aptitude and the ability to climb heights up to 300 feet (Note: Climbing duties are not included during this apprenticeship).
ENCRYPTION/ID/CODE PLUG OFFICE: •Build radio frequency lists, maintain encryption keys and individual ID spreadsheets, and collaborate with other agencies to ensure interoperability.
•Strong organizational and computer skills are required.
SUPPLY: •Procure system construction and maintenance materials, including ordering parts and radio equipment.
•Maintain accurate asset and inventory lists and handle equipment returns for repair.
•Strong computer and organizational skills are essential.
TRAINING AND SAFETY: •Adhere to all DPS safety standards, including wearing steel-toed or composite safety boots, safety glasses, and gloves as required.
•Complete online and in-person training in electronics, electrical troubleshooting, safety protocols, and the use of test equipment and basic hand tools.
