About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Translator to join our team at Main Building, KCHC. As a Clinical Translator, you will be responsible for facilitating communication between healthcare providers and Spanish-speaking patients. Your primary goal will be to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care by accurately translating medical information and instructions. You will play a critical role in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish
  • High School Diploma or equivalency; Associates degree preferred
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in medical interpretation
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology in both English and Spanish

Responsibilities:

  • Performs on-site and over-the-phone interpretation for patients, families, providers and KCHC staff as requested.
  • Maintain and document all in-bound and out-bound calls in EHR to contact the patient and/or mail a letter as needed such as referral, lab results, etc. to inform the patient.
  • Completes interpretation request accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participates as a team member exercising sensitivity and maintain confidentiality of employee and patient information at all times.
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments as needed for Spanish speaking patients.
  • Provides expert knowledge regarding the interplay of medical treatment and key aspects of the patients’ culture.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate count of services provided. This includes number of no-shows, cancelations, reschedules etc. and provide to Outreach Director when asked.
  • Participates in educational programs and competency training to enhance professional role as Clinical Interpreter as needed.
  • Assist the supervisor in identifying barriers to care that patients are experiencing in navigating the system, so that these barriers can be addressed organizationally.
  • Assist in training of any new hires for clinical interpreter position.
  • Assist with translation of KCHC written documents from English to Spanish.
  • Assist with translation of KCHC website from English to Spanish.
  • Assist with translation of KCHC brochures from English to Spanish.
  • Maintains a professional appearance, demeanor, and dedication to service.
  • Adheres to all federal regulations regarding HIPAA as well as KCHC employee policies.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.

Skills:

As a Clinical Interpreter, you will use your fluency in both English and Spanish to accurately translate medical information and instructions. You will also use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and Spanish-speaking patients. In addition, you will collaborate with healthcare providers to develop culturally appropriate care plans for Spanish-speaking patients. Your ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards will be critical in ensuring patient trust and satisfaction. Finally, your knowledge of medical terminology in both English and Spanish will be essential in accurately translating medical information and instructions.
