Department: Tax and Accounting Services Department
Reports To: Tax Manager and Tax Associate

Job Summary:

The Bookkeeper is responsible for providing after-the-fact bookkeeping services with a primary focus on tax compliance. The ideal candidate will excel at maintaining accurate financial records and supporting our tax CPAs by ensuring clients' financial data is well-organized, reconciled, and prepared for tax filing and compliance requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Record financial transactions from source documents such as bank statements, credit card statements, and client-provided records.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, and other financial accounts.
  • Ensure financial data is accurate, complete, and up to date.

  • Maintain organized digital and physical records for client accounts.
  • Stay updated on bookkeeping best practices and relevant tax compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments and clients to address financial questions and provide necessary documentation.
  • Perform other administrative or accounting-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Oral Communication: Communicates clearly, listens well, and provides informative responses.
  • Written Communication: Produces clear, concise writing and effectively presents numerical data.
  • Technical Expertise: Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. Knowledge of bank reconciliation processes.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and thoroughness in preparing and reviewing financial data.
  • Numerical Proficiency: Strong aptitude for working with numbers and performing complex calculations.
  • Client Management: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Technological Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in tax software (e.g., QuickBooks online, Bill.com, Hubdoc, POS systems, Expensify, Gusto) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Planning/Organizing: Effectively prioritizes tasks, manages time, and sets clear goals and objectives.
  • Professionalism: Remains composed under pressure, treats others with respect, and takes responsibility for actions.
  • Adaptability: Flexibly navigates changes in the work environment, balances multiple demands, and embraces new technology.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma (required); Associate's degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred).
  • At least 3 years of bookkeeping or related experience.
  • Experience with payroll systems and tax preparation (QuickBooks Pro Advisor preferred)
Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Time Commitment:

  • Full-time, with a minimum of 40 hours per week during tax season. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to meet deadlines.
